Have you ever dreamed of trekking the length of New Zealand?

The Great New Zealand Trek is New Zealand’s most ambitious outdoor event taking an army of trekkers the length of the country. Participants can choose to mountain bike, ride a horse, or walk the distance, finishing each evening at the travelling campsite complete with gourmet mess hall, bar, hot showers and massage.

The Great New Zealand Trek began in 2006 at the top of the North Island from Cape Reinga to Kohukohu (207 kms) cross country as an annual event stage by stage.  In 2007 Stage 2 continued across the Hokianga Harbour from Rawene to Pouto (214 kms).  Stage 3 in 2008 avoided Auckland by starting from Port Jackson for Tairua on the Coromandel (130 kms). Stage 4 was held from March 14 to March 22, 2009 beginning at Port Waikato on the West Coast to Kawhia. 230 'trekkers' took up the challenge of 160 kms over 6 days.
