Have you ever dreamed of trekking the length of New Zealand?
The Great New Zealand Trek is New Zealands most ambitious outdoor event taking an army of trekkers the length of the country. Participants can choose to mountain bike, ride a horse, or walk the distance, finishing each evening at the travelling campsite complete with gourmet mess hall, bar, hot showers and massage.
The Great New Zealand Trek is held over 12 stages (one each year) and traverses from the Far North to the deep south of New Zealand in a Trek towards a Cure for Multiple Sclerosis,
STAGE 3 was held from March 15 to March 23, 2008 beginning at Port Jackson at the top of the Coromandel to Tairua. 220 'trekkers' took up the challenge of 140 kms over 6 days. Each day was between 14 kms & 32 kms with the average day of 23 kms making it very achievable for a group aged up to 77! The photos will be on the site soon. As a participant or crew member you'll receive an email letting you know. In the meantime award winning photographer Fay Looney was on hand capturing some delightful moments...See her gallery at www.faylooney.com . These are available to buy with a portion going to MS Research.
Stage 4 is pencilled in from March 14 to March 22, 2009 from Port Waikato to Kawhia. A lot of work needs to happen before now and then to join the gaps but the area certainly offers off the beaten track country through a virgin landscape.
